elyssa's 6th birthday!

last friday morning she came into my room at 6:55AM and reminded me that i was supposed to come in and sing to her ... 'when i wake up i will, go get back in your bed!'

abi came in next, 'mom - we're supposed to wake up elyssa and sing to her - she's on her bed ... but she's not asleep, she's faking.'
Happy Birthday to you!!

before school we went to Libby Lu and nicki got her that fantastic sweatshirt ('high school musical' - here we come! we haven't been exposed to it as of yet ... nicki invited us to have a girl's night at her house! nails, make-up, hairdos, and watch high school musical!)

after Libby Lu we went to lunch in the mall with granny! (i'm waiting for a picture from granny)

and finally we went to lyssa's class and brought snack and balloons!

what a fun day!!

and i think we've created a make-up monster ... i'll share those pictures later!

see what happens ...

(image the water globe is busted too)

when children reach to get something off a shelf that is just a little too tall for them!? in elyssa's excitement to show my mom her gingerbread man statue that she got from our favorite babysitter as a late christmas gift, she knocked the shelf and my seattle rain globe and my statue took fatal falls ...

it was so sad ... the shelf hit elyssa in the head and she cried about it - the bonk on the head as well as the broken items. i cried about my new statue and not-so-sure-if-it's-replaceable rain globe ... andy tried to lighten the mood and make me feel better - "if it ain't broke - it ain't ours!" not helping, dear.

obviously there has to be consequences for actions that cause damage to things that don't belong to us ... we had a talk with elyssa and decided that she could do extra jobs for mom these next 2 weeks. she has been doing a good job of not complaining ... and i have my headless statue sitting on the shelf as a reminder.

now the trick is to replace them ... $25 for the statue and who-knows-how-much for the rain globe!!

midnight potty break

after i checked on the kids and covered them all up i went back to my room and then noticed the hall bathroom light on. i went to see who was up. elyssa was sitting on the potty wiping,+- eyes closed. she stood up and flushed and put her hands tightly over her ears (eyes still shut). then turned to wash her hands, dried them, turned off the light and stumbled back to bed (eyes still shut) ... i walked toward her room and the floor squeaked - she was on her bed when she heard the floor ... she looked at the door to see who (or what maybe? ) was coming into her room. i came in and asked her if she was ok. "yeah.", she said and laid down, covered herself up and went back to sleep ... silly girl.

pinky square

the ultimate promise
"Traditionally, the pinky swear is considered binding and tantamount to a handshake in terms of sealing a deal. The pinky swear originally indicated that the person who breaks the promise must cut off their pinky finger... {not in our house, thankfully} It is most common among school-age children and close friends. The pinky swear signifies a promise that cannot be broken or counteracted by the crossing of fingers, the "I take it back" or any other trickery." (thank you Wikipedia)

watch out - if you pinky 'square' with Lyssa ... she will hold you to it! ie: remind you over and over and over and over and over until you want to cut your OWN pinky off! "mom, you remember we pinky squared." "you pinky squared i could XZY." "mom, pinky square that i don't have to eat hotdogs anymore." BAH - those kids at school, teaching my kids these ridiculous games that i keep getting sucked into!!

and now this ... from #2

let me set the stage ... grocery shopping with all 4 kids at 5:15pm. Easton is strapped in the cart, Ammon's hanging off the right side, Abi holding on to the left. Elyssa rides right in front of Easton, with her feet up, resting her back on my chest a bit. it's pandemonium, "mom, can we have this?" "can we get that?" "stop touching things." "keep your hands on the cart." "don't hang off the cart like that - you're gonna fall." "momma can we get some doughnuts this time??"
i started reading my list to myself, sort of under my breath ... "dressing, broccoli, lettuce, carrots, cheese, and ..." i trailed off thinking where to steer the cart next.

Elyssa says, "we're buying the word 'and'?"

more tooth fairy sightings

saturday, dec 8th, elyssa finally got that extremely loose tooth out of her mouth - with her own tongue. she won't let anyone touch them ... the thought of losing teeth is not pleasant to this little girl. even the incentive of money from the tooth fairy isn't enough! she cried when she discovered that they were loose. (i took a picture of the actual event - the blood and recently dislodged tooth - but as i have mentioned before, my camera needs to be decommissioned and summarily executed, leaving behind only the SD card to carry on in a newer, faster, better camera! please help me! and thank you if you already have!) needless to say, we are on the fast track to toothless grins, only cut-up apples, and brace-face!

looks can be deceiving!

this past sunday, when we left the primary appreciation dinner the presidency handed these out to the teachers (both of the men got bags of candy!). if you look real close there's a line on note that says: "of course don't take a sip" - too bad elyssa didn't read the note before wrapping her lips around the straw! in trying to sneak a taste, instead she got a mouthful of bubble bath! YUCK! her face was priceless ... too bad i wasn't on the ball enough to get a picture! i guess i was too busy helping her wash it out and explaining the consequences for not asking before touching things that are not yours.
